The Democratic Republic of Congo is the richest nation on the world, in terms of natural resources. But DRC has the lowest per capita GDP in the world. 80% of the population lives on less than two dollars a day, and suffers from malnutrition and the effects of impure drinking water. Many of the Conoglese people have experienced tremendous loss, especially about ten years ago as Congo underwent a tragic civil war that involved eight African nations and killed 5.4 million people. But God is bigger than this!
A cousin of my mother works in DRC with WyCliffe and has invited me to spend the summer with her. I will be able to experience the translating and discipleship work that she does, as well as step into the life of a missionary and bring Christ's love to these people. I will also have the blessing of being able to help her neighbors with a program for Congolese girls called Bana Basi ya Kopela- girls of the light.
I feel that this trip is such a God-thing, He has opened the dorr and everything has fallen into place perfectly. I will be leaving on July 4th, and returning August 24th. But this is not something I can do alone, I need your support.
The greatest need I have is that of prayer. There is an incredible amount of strength in prayer. James 5:16 says the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Please pray for:
- The Congolese people- that their hearts will be open to hearing Christ's words
- Safety and health
- Wisdom- that God will give me the words to say and the knowledge to understand the language, and the I will follow His will
